The price of staying in a gîte in France

Postby Rochej » Wed Apr 01, 2009 12:57 pm

THE average price per person of spending a night in a gîte in France during the high season is €26.11, while the cost of the same in a chambre d’hôtes is €32.60.

A survey by French holiday home website, Toprural, found that the most expensive gîtes are found in Corsica, with an average price of €45.90.

Coming in some way behind in second place was Poitou-Charentes at €32.50, with the third most expensive place on average being Provence-Alpes-Côte-d’Azur, with a price per person per night of €31.30.

The cheapest places to stay in a gîte were Lorraine (€17.10), Champagne-Ardenne (€18.30) and Alsace (€18.80); the survey drew on prices supplied by just under 9,000 gîtes and chambre d’hôtes (via france_normandy).

I just found this thread by chance but I am also in the process of searching for a gite or some kind of cottage/chalet in the Alsace or Lorraine area, for when I go on vacation with my family next year. The prices I have found have been quite varied. Here are the sites I've been looking at:

I also really liked this site, their chalets are really typical and old-looking which I like:

This site also has traditional looking gites:

So there are a lot of options! Does anyone have any experiences renting gites, so that I can be given some recommendations?
